This is a pop n' drop wheel WITH tire for less than the cost of the tire (+removal, replacement, balancing, etc). Moulding 'titties' are still on the first line of tread. Very little wear: probably less than 200 miles. It was pressured to 80psi, checked throughly for any problems: shows slight heat spidering. The tire is free, use it if you like. The wheel is VERY good. Fits '80 trough '82 11's. |

This set was shelved because after having a bit*h of a time getting the left side to idle properly, I finally removed the low-speed pilot to find that the end of it was still in the carb. HENCE: the LEFT carb on this set could be considered as PARTS unless you get that jet-base out of the body, while the right side is quite a good carburetor. Other than the jet and missing choke lever assembly on the left, the rest of the carbs are pretty decent. I've ended my Yamaha 650 days after 38 years of riding them (PDI'd the first ones in Vancouver in late '69), and all my stuff is going: this is part of my spares bins. |

I reviewed the receipts, realized he had (way back then) put nearly $600 into it: and I bought the bike for spares for my XS1-B: there's a lot of similar parts on the 71 and the '72's. <p> I got the bike home, checked the timing: took the advance plate off, rotated it 180 degrees, and fired it up on the 2nd or third kick: he had simply mis-placed the advance cam. The thing ran like a clock.<p> Over the years, the second bike: came in handy: I used the Perelli Phantom rear tire (brand new) right off the bat. I used the kick start lever when I wore mine out (note: the kick on the motor is the worn out one: just there to roll it with: it's nearly useless and won't come with the motor unless you so instruct). I used the advance plate and the points plate. I removed the valve-adjustment plates way back when, so I could inject lube in the right areas once or twice per year, and turn the motor over. The valve-adjustment covers went missing 20 years ago. I used a couple or more of the valve-cover studs for my XS1-B. I used the side cover when I broke my arm and the left side cover of the '71 on a slick where someone had dropped their oil plug on a hard left hand corner.<p> Other than the few parts I used, for all intents and purposes, you are looking at a motor which was rebuilt, ran for 5 minutes, and then I stripped the bike and shelved the pieces, with the timing plate and timing advance immediately into my office in a box: and yes, they got used.<p> The motor had the head and cyclinder blocks heat-proof painted the fellow rebuilt it, but the paint was never properly cured: I only ran the bike long enough to check the engine. Hence, the paint pretty much washes off (see pic of the edge of the valve-cover, then another picture 20 seconds later: after I cleaned the edge with my thumb-nail). The black paint on there will probably blow off with a pressure washer.<p> There's a couple bolts missing here and there, but nothing major. <p> After owning the XS-1b for 23 years, I sold it summer before last. I gave the frame, last year, to a buddy who STILL owns hhis '71 XS that he bought new: but with a tweaked frame for the past few years.<p> I have no need for this engine, and some deserving soul should have it. So: here it is. Shipping on it won't be too bad: it's about 170lbs in a crate. Crating is $30. I'd guess less than $200 to ship anywhere in the US. If it goes to the US, I'll pack it across the border in my "Wing" trailer, and send it from there to save the hassle for the buyer. If in Canada, I can send it DHL or FED-X, probably for about $165. Regardless, I'll get it to you the cheapest way possible. For overseas: Europe, UK: I will crate it for you, and the rest is up to you: it'll be FOB my yard.<p>Be aware: this motor was sitting in my shop for nearly 25 years. It has been rebuilt, way back when: to the extent that you can probably re-use the head gasket, HOWEVER: having oiled it regularly, and left it open so I COULD oil it regularly: there's going to be dust mixed with sawdust, mixed with oil: throughout the top end. What you are looking at in the pic of the valve is not rust, it's just plain mung. It should be stripped and cleaned out, and the top-end reassembled, or you are NUTS. The bottom end is fine: the oil in it still looks like nice honey (see pic of dip stick). Having said that: I can do the strip and reassemble: but then I'd just have to add $300 or so and sell this as a FRESH rebuild. It all here, except the minor pieces that you don't see in the pics. It's tight, has good cases, rolls over clean and easy with the plugs out, and thecams remain in good shape, from what I can see rolling it over. The cylinders should be just fine, and I think, but am not certain, that it is 20 or 30 thou over on the pistons. <p>Have a blast with this one, boys: first year electric-start XS2 engines don't fall off trees. I rode my '71 for 23 years. I've owned 7 or 8 of them over the years, and the last one I sold before mine went to CA for $4500 on eBay: and the guy loved it: the feedback in in here, about three years ago in the summer. I KNOW these bikes, inside and out: and I think some one is getting a cherry disguised as a pit regards this motor, but NO guarantees.<p>PS: if any one is interested, I still also have a brand new XS1 crank sitting in a box....never needed it. |

The right side cover is very good, the left one has good paint but was sitting near a heat source and the plastic is slightly warped (you won't see it from the pics: you need to have it sighted on edge). The pin stripping on the whole body is generally excellent, little if any sun-burn or peeling. The color is deep and clear, again, very little sunburn (the bike came from Alaska:-) ). The rad cowlings have some minor blurbs, and one is just a little wrinkled near the top mount tab. Generally, this is one extraordinary stock paint-work. As a whole it is worth considerably less than the pieces are, but I will not break it up. It spent the last 35 years together. Shipping on this will be by Grayhound in Canada (about $75), and by Fed-Ex in the US (about $85). It is priced to compensate for the shipping costs. The pictures shown here were taken for a freind who wanted to put the stock pinstripping back onto his bike: hence the tape measure to give him the scale. It also provides some decent closeups. |
