Head from an '01 that was running great. The bike was parted out for the complete body, which was sold as a unit, the motor sold to Europe as a short-block, heads and cams removed before it was sold to reduce weight ans space. The cam for this was about 1/2 way to factory minimum, not worth installing. This head is a good one: flat-plated (2/100,000 tolerance) and showed zero warp. The cylinder compression was at 75% or new, the bike ran very well. The valves are well seated. The buckets and shims are in it. The journals showed normal, more micro-lines put into it when wiping it with a soft clean cloth than were in it from the running of it. I did not dissassemble the valves to check the valve guides, saw no reason to do so. This head is no longer available at Honda. The question with heads is: is this worth the time and labor to install? The cost of time for the installation must be brought in to play. The answer on this head is, yes, I would install it, as is, but with the diligence that should be taken when installing any head: disassemble the valves, re-lap them, check guide wear, place new valve seals, reassemble. A good machine shop will do that if you cannot, for about $100-$120 labor last I checked. Anyone who buys a head and doesn't do at least the above tasks before placing it is nuttie. It is a 5-6 hour job to remove and replace it. Do it once: properly.
