Save yourself a whole bunch of time and effort, about 10-12 hours work after you have the tools, supplies, parts prepared and ready to work with, plus shopping and shipping and waiting for parts, and you have experience and know what you are doing.

These are ready to go, completely overhauled, and this set requires very little effort to win the show: they are in extraordinary stock condition compared to the era.

Carburetor Assemblies: Right assy 16103-MB9-014 or 16104-MB9-004 and Left assy 16102-MB9-004 or -014.

Properly for the 82 and '83 years, but works just as well on the '80-81 years, and better yet, this has the removable Idle Jets, which are a real pain in the butt on the 80-81's.

Notes from the Bench:
Very dirty exterior when removed from the storage shelf. An hour of working with the solvent bath revealed that the stock exterior had been protected by the oil and varnish accumulated before this bike went down, in the late 1980?s. The stock finish on the carburetors and the plenum are, for the era, extraordinary in their condition. That includes the linkage: comparatively in very good stock condition.

From 83, same as 83 (1980 to 1983 fitment) Carburetor Set 2025(9) Model: VB 48D(A)TL

Used: All original OEM jets, new O-rings throughout.

Set Condition: Exceptionally good internal condition. From running 1983 removed in mid-late ?80?s, shelved high and dry since then. All jets clean and in good condition, but regardless they were ?tanked? for overnight cleaning.

Plenum split to check each carb, replace mount-gaskets.

Float bowl pins excellent, needed no polishing.

Needle jets: All excellent stock ones used. No polishing needed.

Sliders, caps: interior polished to proper operation. Exterior of caps: These are mainly stock finish, with slight surface loss of the finish, except one cap-top where it is missing a larger patch of finish. In that the stock finish, although not as good as when issued, is better than 95% of what is out there as stock finish for this era, I decided not to polish them, and have left the stock finish alone. If you want them polished I will do that before shipping. If this is going on a collector or show bike, then it is your decision as to how you want this handled.

Bases, bottoms internals: all aspects excellent. No corrosion at all on float pin towers or needle and fuel towers, float pins or valve bases: inspected, cleaned, all good. Fuel bypass port checked, cleaned, good.

Float bowl positions: all set at 15.5mm properly, all square and ready to run.

All air passages soaked, cleaned, cleared, and done twice more.

All 4 cut-offs replaced with new ones. Accelerator pump replaced with new.

Linkages: all rarely good stock finish, all lubed, good to place (do not re-lubricate: they have the best lube money can buy on them now. Lubricate in another 3 years). Bodies cleaned, and with a lot of tooth-brush work, gotten fairly clean to work on, but not brought to collector cleanliness: you want them perfect, or cleaner then they are, do that yourself. I have more than 14 meticulous hours into these. A stiff toothbrush and a can of Honda Carburetor and Compression Cylinder cleaner will work wonders on the exterior if you want it better: do small segments one by one, do NOT leave the cleaner on for very long and wash off thoroughly to complete, to retain stock finish. That can be down without disturbing the fresh overhaul, simply block off all entry points before working on the ?rack?.

Pilot jets: renewed. Set at 2 turns: that should be done properly with the bike running, as well as having the linkage synched to have all carbs matched for fuel intake.

Bodies generally: Extraordinarily good, all base-screws solid, all original hardware present and utilized.

Be prepared to re-set the idle screw on the bell when you start the bike. It is generally set now, but may be a high or low idle. This set (and ANY set) MUST be synchronized to the bike before proper operation occurs. EVERY bike is different.

Generally, this is a rarely nice set of 43 year old carbs that made it through the years on considerably above average condition, especially the interior, where it counts. Bear in mind: These ARE vintage, they are not new, but when you find a set in the condition these are in, you have found something VERY rare, 43 years later.

Maintenance in the future: At ANY time this bike will not be run for more than a month, put SeaFoam (2oz per 4 liters fuel) in the fuel, make sure it is run through into the carburetors. That will keep them clean, as well as all other components along the way: petcock, fuel-pump, and lines.

If you think the cost of these as rebuilt is high, then think about this: these took over 10 hours, just because they are old vintage carbs and need and deserve meticulous attention and caring work. You aren?t even paying for all the labor involved at this price, nor the carbs, the kits or the cut-offs or accelerator pump. And anyone says to you, oh, sure: 4-5 hours labor: don?t trust the job. It takes longer than that to dis-assemble and re-assemble IF you know what you are doing, and at least that long to clean them, never mind the rest of the work involved in soaking jets and circuits and clearing them, setting things to operational specs and correcting clearances: polishing as needed, and just doing it right. For putting these show-worthy, there?s still work to be done, but to drive away with them they require only adjustment to your bike.
