Save yourself a whole bunch of time and effort, about 10-12 hours work, plus shopping and shipping and waiting for parts: these are ready to go, completely overhauled.

Carburetor Assemblies: Left 16101-MB9-004 and Right 16106-MB9-004. Properly for the 82 and '83 years, but works just as well on the '80-81 years, and better yet, this has the removable Idle Jets, which are a real pain in the butt on the 80-81's..

Notes from the Bench:

from 82, same as 83 (1980 to 1983 fitment) Carburetor Set 2025(8) Model: VB-48B(A)TL

Used: Full jet sets, 4 of, all except needle-jets included.

Set Condition: Exceptionally, rarely good internal condition. From running 1982 in 2007, shelved high and dry since then. All jets reusable, but used the kits to replace with new Slow Speed Idle and Pilot anyway.

Renewed gaskets. Plenum split to check each carb, replace mount-gaskets.

New O-rings throughout, new air-inlet gaskets.

Float bowl pins polished. New float valves on new valve bases, with new aluminum crush-rings.

Needle jets: All excellent stock ones used. No polishing needed, but 'tanked overnight regardless to ensure cleanliness.

Sliders, caps: interior polished to proper operation. Exterior of caps: polished to check for damage. All good

Bases, bottoms internals: all aspects excellent. No corrosion at all on float pin towers or needle and fuel towers, or float pins or valve bases: inspected, cleaned, all good. Fuel bypass port checked, cleaned, good. New float jets installed, new float valves installed.

Float bowl positions: all set at 15.5mm properly, all square and ready to run.

All air passages soaked, cleaned, cleared, and done twice more.

All 4 cut-offs replaced with new ones. New accelerator pump diaphram kit placed.

Linkages: all good, all lubed, good to place (do not re-lubricate: they have the best lube money can buy on them now. Lubricate in another 3 years). Bodies cleaned to work on, but not brought to collector cleanliness: you want them perfect, or cleaner, do that yourself. I have more than 10 meticulous hours into these. A stiff toothbrush and a can of Honda Compression Cylinder cleaner will work wonders on the exterior if you want it better: do not leave the cleaner on for very long and wash off thoroughly to complete, to retain stock finish.

Pilot jets: renewed. Set at 2 turns: that should be done properly with the bike running, as well as having the linkage synched to have all carbs matched for fuel intake, especially with new needles in them.

Bodies generally: Very good, all base-screws solid, all original hardware present and utilized.

Accelerator pump: cleaned and lubricated diaphragm and boot inspected, checked as good.

Be prepared to re-set the idle screw on the bell when you start the bike. It is generally set now, but may be a high or low idle.

This set (and ANY set) MUST be synchronized to the bike before proper operation occurs. EVERY bike is different.

Generally, this is a rarely nice set of 43 year old carbs that made it through the years on considerably above average condition, especially the interior, where it counts. Bear in mind: These ARE vintage, they are not new, they don?t look new. They should operate very close to new though. They should make your ride really enjoyable when set up properly.

Maintenance in the future: At ANY time this bike will not be run for more than a month, put SeaFoam (2oz per 4 liters fuel) in the fuel, make sure it is run through into the carburetors. That will keep them clean, as well as all other components along the way: petcock, fuel-pump, and lines.

If you think the cost of these as rebuilt is high, then think about this: these took over 10 hours, just because they are old vintage carbs and need and deserve meticulous attention and caring work. You aren?t even paying for the labor at this price, nor the carbs, the kits or the cut-offs. And anyone says to you, oh, sure: 4-5 hours? Don?t trust the job. It takes longer than that to dis-assemble and re-assemble, never mind the rest of the work involved cleaning, setting things to operational specs and correcting clearances: polishing as needed, and just doing it right.
